When now No. 2 tennis ace Novak Djokovic realised that he is gluten intolerant he had to give up what we can term as comfort food. Pizza, pretzels and pasta were a strict no, no in his gluten free diet. However, his doctor made sure that his gluten free diet turned him into as he says in his own words, into a fitter, healthier and more physically active tennis player.
An allergy to gluten essentially means that a person cannot properly digest the proteins that come from wheat. This essentially means that Djokovic had to cut out all the starch from his diet. Gluten intolerance can heighten the risk of anaphylaxis and in severe cases can also lead to coeliac disease.
Novak Djokovic’s successful run in the Davis Cup, Australian Open and making it to the finals in the U.S. Open bear testimony to the fact that athletes need not fret about gluten intolerance anymore. Gluten free healthy eating is what Novak Djokovic swears by and his new diet plan has yielded him positive results!
