Fast food can be a dieter’s downfall, but what about eating food too fast? It turns out that eating slowly may help with weight control. It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to get the message that your stomach is full. Eating slowly makes it easier to recognize these signals. Try slowing down with these mealtime strategies.

Just Breathe: Take a deep breath before you sit down for a meal. If you are relaxed, you are more likely to eat slower.

Savor it: Don’t think of food as just fuel, but rather a pleasure for all of the senses.

Come Together: Eating alone may cause you to eat faster. Enhance the experience by dining together with friends and family.

Turn Off the Tube: Ditch distractions like TV, which may keep you from paying attention to what and how fast you are eating.

Take a Break: Pause between bites and even put your fork down as a reminder to slow down.
